You have to see this beautiful family. Little G has the world's most adorable smile and check out those curls. Mom and dad are going to have the girls knocking down the door when he grows up...watch out. We were able to get some indoor traditional studio shots and then we headed outside to take advantage of the gorgeous weather this weekend. It is so rare to have puffy white clouds in Phoenix. They added the perfect backdrop to these images. These are some of my new favorites!!

I am starting to catch up on my blogging and wanted to share this session. We were able to go to the Smith Real Estate Team's office in Surprise and do their team photos. Joshua has been working with my brother and his wife to sell their home and has done an amazing job in this housing market. They have been very impressed with the entire team.

When we were done with business portraits, we were able to take some quick family photos outside of the office for Joshua and Amanda. Check out this adorable little one!! She has the sweetest little smile and gorgeous blue eyes. If you need a real estate agent we would highly recommend Team Smith!!

I was able to shoot this gorgeous Christmas wedding with Erica at Vision Photographs who was so easy going and professional. They know what is important in life and have followed their hearts. They were married at the First Christian Church in Phoenix. It was a gorgeous Frank Lloyd Wright building. It was so exciting to be able to shoot there.

The beautiful reception was at the Different Pointe of View at the Pointe South Hilton Tapatio Resort and overlooked the valley. The view was amazing! Here are some of my favorite images from the day. Congratulations Sam and Desiree.

I am backlogged on blogging sessions with the holiday rush but had to share this one. Baby N has to be one of the most adorable babys I have ever photographed. Check out those big brown eyes and sweet cheeks. I had to take a break and post some sneak peeks from the session. We had so much fun with them. They were up for anything fun and wanted some hip and trendy portraits. I LOVE any chance I get to be creative and try some new ideas. I even got to use my new red chair outdoors...yea!! Everyday Life

I thought I would share a few images of my little people and life around our house. Being the wanna-be-kitchen-guru that I am, I ordered an enourmous box of Fugi apples a few weeks ago....just because the other moms were. I thought it would make me more domesticated...LOL . They smelled delicious. There were tons of them and they started going bad. Wendy, my studio manager, is a kick bootie good chef and my kitchen idol. She told us how to dehydrate the apples and make them into snacks for the kids. We borrowed her food dehydrater and went to town on the apples. The kiddos had a good time and we have some seriously good snackage now. I love to go look at the dried apples in the panty. They make me feel like a real homemaker..hehehe. Just wait until peach season comes around!

This was a really cool session that I got to do. These three beautiful sisters were NOT looking forward to having their portraits done. The family had purchased a gift certificate for the sisters to have a portrait made together. We went to their home and brought our portable studio set up. What a treasure for the family to have! What about a portrait party?

This is a great opportunity for you and your friends and family, coworkers, church group etc. to get together and have professional portraits made. April Bernd of Photography By April brings her portable studio and sets up in a quiet area of your home that is at least 10’X10’ It is a low stress, fun way to get professional portraits. Hostesses earn credits towards their own portraits. No waiting in lines, no selling on the day of the party and no hassles.

Each guest views their images online in the convenience of their own homes and only orders what they would like. Absolutely no sales pressure from us! The hostess does not need to collect orders or payments. It takes about 2-3 hours depending on the number of guests. Each family may only schedule one 15 minute session. If your guests have many portrait needs such as family and newborn, we recommend booking a standard session with Photography By April. There are:
NO sitting fee
NO sales presentation
NO obligation to purchase anything
Special collection prices only for party-goers

Earn Hostess Gifts
Your hostess award for having at least 6 guests attend will include a special collection of
1 pose including one 8X10, two, 5X7 prints and one set of wallets.
Hostesses will also receive 10 percent of the total orders as a credit towards their own portraits. Credits cannot be used for previous or future portraits. If one of your guests books their own portrait party within 2 weeks, you will earn an additional $25 credit. Family groups count as one guest.

What would I need to do?
As a hostess you would send out email invitations or postcards (we provide) to friends, family, co-workers, church acquaintances etc. inviting them to your portrait party. Photography By April will provide you with a schedule and you schedule sessions every 20 minutes. If you would like to provide food and drinks for your guests, feel free. On the day of your party, April will arrive about 1 hour before the first session to set up and take your photos before guests arrive. During the party, guests do not need to stay for the whole time, they can arrive about 15 minutes before sessions and leave when they are done if they like or stay the whole time and visit. It is very low key and relaxed no formal presentations etc. There is a minimum of 6 people that have to be scheduled to be able to hold party.

How Do I Order?
Portraits are available in an online gallery about 2 weeks after your party. Guests can order directly from the website with Visa, MasterCard, Discover or personal check. All guest orders must be placed within 10 days. The Hostess order needs to be placed within 3 days of the guest orders. Within 3 weeks, orders will be delivered to the hostess for delivery to her guests.

How do I book a portrait party?
When you are ready to schedule your portrait party, contact your guests to find a couple good days and times. Give April a call at 623.687.0070 or email info@photobyapril.com to find a date and time to schedule. April will send out an information package and you are all ready.

I had the pleasure of doing newborn photos for baby e. It has been awhile since I have had a little girl to photograph so this was quite a treat. I was able to pull out the baby tutu and play. Baby Signs With Jill

I met Jill Keller at a mommynetworking meeting last week. Jill has a business that teaches babies how to use sign language to communicate and reduce frustration with mom and baby. SI used sign language with Emma when she was younger and it was wonderful! She was my easiest baby because I could tell what she wanted. She would make the sign for "hungry" and "refrigerator" and I would be able to get her a snack. If she wanted a drink, she would make the sign for "milk" and "water". We never went through terrible twos. I wish I had done this with my older kids. It would have made my life SOOO much easier...LOL.

Trying out a new lens..

I was trying out a new lens that I rented for the wedding this past weekend and these are some of the shots I came away with. I am loving this lens. I know what I want Santa to bring this year. :) I'll have to share some of the wedding images when I get them done. I love shooting weddings. There is just something about being in the middle of the most exciting day in someone's life and being able to record the joy and tears. I LOVE my job!!

We are gearing up for another holiday portrait season and we have some fun things in store. The first is an entirely new collection of portrait packages. We can even use a photo of your own wall and show you what your collection will look like with your images. Super COOL!!

Family Session

I didn't get a chance to post images from a really fun outdoor family session I did. We went down to the Mesa temple and had a good time taking images around the grounds. I LOVE the way the family sillouhette came out.

If you need a large family portrait, we are going to start booking outdoor sessions beginning at the end of September. Holiday portrait season in coming up and we always fill up fast. From October-December sessions are usually booked up 4-6 weeks in advance. Keep an eye on the blog for news about this years holiday happenings and special sessions.

Introducing Mini-Sessions

We are introducing mini-sessions this summer. These special sessions will take place in our home studio and take place on one day a month. They last 15 minutes and we will have one backdrop and no clothing changes. You will receive about 10 images in your online gallery. The price for mini-sessions is only $25 and is limited to only 5 people. The July mini-session date will be on Thursday July 24th. There are a limited amount of sessions available so call early to book your spot. This month will be using our white backdrop. We have our usual tutus, props and dress up available as well.

Summer ROCKS!

This is my favorite season! I love the smell of chlorine in the pool and steaks on the BBQ. I love the way cool grass feels on bare feet and the way ice cream tastes on a hot day. We have been spending time around here soaking up rays, playing the WII too much and catching some summer flicks. Did you know that they make casts that you can swim in? I didn't. J is able to keep up with his brothers and enjoy the pool too. I have too many years of "don't get that cast wet" ingrained in my head to completely relax while he swims. It actually freaks me out...baaaaad!! I had to catch a pic of that purple cast in the pool. My mom would never believe me if I told her it was possible. WEIRD!! Happy Tuesday!!

Just a quick note... I am going to be gone for a few days while I head to the WPPI photography convention. Going Digital

I finally decided to take the plunge and go digital today...I got a Blackberry to keep me organized. E came with me and when we were offered the choice of white or pink...you can guess which one she wanted mommy to get. I am going to have to spend a few days becoming friends with all of the features, but I think we are going to get along just fine. I am hoping the GPS will help out with those location shoots....not that I have ever gotten lost before...lol. This is going to be a fun new toy. COOOL BEANS!!!

Our Super Studio Saturday was a big hit!! We got to meet lots of people and take lots of photos and had a great time. We had clients coming from all over the valley...Queen Creek to Anthem to right here in Buckeye. Thanks to everyone that helped make it a huge success. Inquire about pricing if you would like additional cards. The last date that we are booking Christmas card and gift sessions is December 5, 2007 to ensure delivery in time for the holidays.
